Demographic Insights into Social Media Forums


Recent data from various sources including eMarketer, Baby Centre LLC, Google A Planner data and others have provided the following key demographics for the various social media networks.

Facebook


  • Baby Boomers (44 to 62 years ols) using Facebook has increased by more than double (107%) from 2008 to 2009.
  • 73% of Baby Boomers have a Facebook profile set up.
  • 90% of 'Matures' have a Facebook profile active.
  • 75% of mothers are Facebook fan of at least one product with one in six being fans of 10 products.
  • 71% of Generation Y have a Facebook account, and
  • In total over 500 million people now use Facebook globally.


LinkedIn

  • Only 13% of Baby Boomers and 4% of 'Matures' are on LinkedIn.
  • Only 7% of Generation X have a LinkedIn account.
  • The site is the pre-eminant business networking site.
  • Over half the users on LinkedIn are between 35 and 54, and
  • Primarily focused on busniess professionals and job seekers.

Twitter

  • Only 10% of teens aged 14 to 17
  • 5% of kids aged 12 to 13 use Twitter, and
  • Twitters largest age group 9around 30% of its users) are people aged between 35 and 44.
